Dig a borehole in Hungary and the chances are you’ll hit a thermal spring. These warm waters have a minimum temperature of 86°F/30°C, and are rich in salts and minerals. Thermal baths, sanatoria, lidos and an impressive range of other health facilities have grown up – and continue to develop – around these waters. There are few medium-sized towns in Hungary without their own thermal baths.
